Dominican Alliance Promoters of Justice, Peace and Care of Creation Meet in Houston
During the weekend of May 20th-22nd the Dominican Alliance Justice Promoters met in Houston, Texas for their annual planning meeting They focused on two of the 2004-2009 goals of the Dominican Alliance.
One goal says that in the next five years members of the Dominican Alliance will become a more transforming influence by practicing non-violence and simple sustainable living. The hope is that both the justice promoters and the Eco-Justice Committee will continue to design collaboratively plans for theological reflection experiences leading to the development of skills for non-violence and simple sustainable living.
During the weekend meeting the promoters began to strategize about the theological reflection experience. Under the umbrella of sustainability, various units were envisioned and designed using the double lens of sustainable living and non-violence.
The other goal of promoting education of members, advocacy, and outreach for the issue of Human Trafficking was discussed. Traveling educational bags composed of a variety of aids like videos, power-point CDs, resource units, prayer cards and other materials that relate to raising awareness and understanding of trafficking were designed.
The Human Trafficking Bags will be available for use with educators, healthcare personnel, parish ministers, and social workers, as well as for regional congregational groups and/or local communities by the end of the summer.
While much remains to be done in order to bring the two goals to reality, the justice promoters were energized by their dialogue and practical efforts.
